YP x Madonna: Happy Iconic Birthday!

Aug 10, 2022 Read More

Madonna has made history once again! The icon of the 1980s dance-pop scene now has 50 #1 singles on the dance-pop billboard, making her the only artist, anywhere, ever, to have 50 number ones on a single Billboard chart.

In true Madonna fashion, she is making the most of this accomplishment via a 50-track album, headline-catching collaborations, and a surprise performance to kick off Pride Week. It seems we are in the midst, once again, of a Madonna-athon! And Yellowpop is very excited to announce that we, too, have gotten in on the action with an exclusive collaboration in limited-edition for the Icon's Birthday!

The Pride Performance

It was announced last-minute on Madonna’s Instagram account, with next to no publicity outside of this. Yet, last Thursday’s show at Terminal 5 on the West Side of New York saw a packed house full of dancing, laughing, delighted audience members!

The event was named after the World of Women art collective, an organization that aims to increase visibility for women in the NFT (non-fungible token) space. It was hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race star Bob the Drag Queen with cameo performances by Tokischa and Saucy Santana.

The performance was named Wow, Finally Enough Love, in reference to Madonna’s upcoming 50-track remix album. According to one attendee, NFT “tickets” needed to be purchased via cryptocurrency in order to attend.

This was not, however, Madonna’s first step into Web3 territory. In May she released a shocking, controversial, and entirely “Madonna” NFT project with none other than web3 superstar Beeple.

The NFT Project

According to an interview posted on her Instagram, this project was a year in the making and focuses on themes of motherhood and creativity, two things Madonna has explored at length throughout her career. The result is titled “Mother of Creation” and features a tryptic of short videos created via digital scans of Madonna’s whole body.

In the spirit of her greatest career moments, it is immediately striking, potentially shocking to the conservatively minded, yet clearly packed with meaning. Each video is narrated by Madonna herself, either in her own words or the famous poet Rumi.

This project, along with her surprise concert at Terminal 5, continues a tradition that is central to not only her career but who Madonna is as an artist; the willingness to break new ground, take risks and create something unexpected yet unforgettable. No matter what side of the fence you’re on, it is undeniable that Madonna remains a central figure in the cultural conversation.

YP x Madonna

There was the NFT project, the surprise performance, and now there is neon! Continuing with her exploration of fresh creative territory, Madonna has partnered with Yellowpop to create a limited edition set of four LED-neon signsOnly 100 units available for each design.

This project calls back to career highlights such as “Express yourself” and her “True Blue” album, which many consider to be an artistic turning point for Madonna, from dance-pop princess to serious balladeer.

It’s so perfectly in line with Madonna’s roots in 80s club culture, so fitting that her work would be transformed into the same lights under which she first captured the spirit of the culture! For those inspired by Madonna, it’s the perfect way to add a touch of unapologetic, superstar energy to their space.

Finally Enough Love!

It all leads, of course, to the release of her 50-track remix album titled Finally Enough Love. It’s the perfect celebratory move as Madonna has been working with DJs since the beginning of her career, transforming our view of disco music forevermore.

The album boasts some impressive names, like the Pet Shop Boys, Shep Pettibone, David Morales, and even the late Tim Burlging, a.k.a Avicii.

It is an understatement to say that Madonna has come far from her small-town, Michigan roots. From her early days singing in punk rock bands to her initial success with “Everybody,” to such iconic moments as her Gentlemen Prefer Blondes-inspired video for “Material Girl” or her 2003 VMA performance with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. It’s been an unforgettable ride through glamor, bold self-expression, and intoxicating music!

For all of these reasons and so many more, we could not be more excited to participate in this next Madonna Moment in history!

“Express Yourself” was released in 1989 on Madonna’s iconic Like a Prayer album. It not only became a dance club favorite but championed one of Madonna’s core values; the expression of love for another. It doubles as a promotion of self-love, making it that much more inspirational and lyrically dynamic.
